Results: There were significant differences in the definitions used, the time frames of interest, and the populations surveyed. There was significant heterogeneity across studies. Overall prevalence of urinary incontinence for Australian adults was estimated to be 19.3% and 2.2% in Australian women and men, respectively. Overall prevalence of faecal incontinence was estimated to be 5.3% and 5.5% in Australian women and men, respectively. Conclusions: It is disappointing that with so many studies published in this area, there is still a lack of high quality, basic descriptive epidemiology of this important health problem. These estimates of the prevalences of urinary and faecal incontinence should assist policy making in this area.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 11:43:44 AEST ]]> Older patients' consultations in an apprenticeship model-based general practice training program: a cross-sectional study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32043 Tue 24 Apr 2018 13:52:45 AEST ]]> Waiting times in aged care: What matters? https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46417 Tue 22 Nov 2022 12:01:46 AEDT ]]> Work-related well-being of personal care attendants employed in the aged care sector: prevalence and predictors of compassion fatigue https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48548 Tue 21 Mar 2023 15:31:09 AEDT ]]> Staff conceptualisations of elder abuse in residential aged care: A rapid review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41369 Tue 02 Aug 2022 15:06:26 AEST ]]> Talking to healthcare providers about sex in later life: findings from a qualitative study with older Australian men and women https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34248 Thu 30 Mar 2023 18:42:18 AEDT ]]> Qualitative insights into the experience of pain in older Australian women with arthritis https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35751 Thu 28 Nov 2019 12:38:45 AEDT ]]> Improving the sexual lives of older Australians: perspectives from a qualitative study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34595 (n = 30) and women (n = 23) aged 60 and over. Results: Participants identified a range of key issues and areas where their sexual lives could be further supported or improved upon, including normalising the occurrence of sex and sexual desire in later life; increasing and improving on the quality of, cultural representations of older adults; introducing policy, educational and practice‐based changes in age care facilities to support the consensual sexual expression of residents; and ensuring that sexual health campaigns and education are inclusive of older people. Conclusion: Our findings present clear implications for further developing sexuality education and public health campaigns, training and education of health‐care professionals, and generating social and cultural change pertaining to the acceptability of the diversity of sexual expression in later life. Policy Statement: Many older adults remain sexually active in later life. Sexual health and ageing policy and education should be inclusive of older adults, and normalise the diversity of sexual expression in later life.
